The following gives an overview of the method used to calculate the MiCA indicators related to energy as well as the related data sources used in the CCRI API.

⚡ Energy consumption

Metric definition	Total amount of energy used for the validation of transactions and the maintenance of the integrity of the distributed ledger of transactions
Method	For PoW currencies: calculation based on techno-economic models considering the hash rate, the profitability of the hardware, and the electricity price. For PoS currencies: calculation based on a measurement-based approach considering the number of nodes and transactions. For tokens: calculation based on hybrid allocation from the respective base layer.

🛢️ Renewable energy consumption

Metric definition	Share of energy used generated from renewable sources for the validation of transactions and the maintenance of the integrity of the distributed ledger of transactions
Method	Calculation based on miner locations (for PoW) / node locations (for PoS) and country- or region-level renewable energy rates
