MiCA Art. 66(5) – Sustainability Disclosure

In short

Every crypto-asset service provider (CASP) has to publish sustainability indicators for each crypto-asset it provides services for — prominently on its website. The CCRI API delivers all asset-related fields of the required disclosure tables, updated daily, through a single endpoint.

What the regulation requires

Article 66(5) MiCA (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114):

Crypto-asset service providers shall make publicly available, in a prominent place on their website, information related to the principal adverse impacts on the climate and other environment-related adverse impacts of the consensus mechanism used to issue each crypto-asset in relation to which they provide services.

  • Who: all CASPs — independent of the type of crypto-asset service.
  • What: sustainability indicators per crypto-asset, covering the consensus mechanism used to issue it.
  • Where: publicly, in a prominent place on the CASP's website.

Token issuers face the same content requirement in their white paper (Art. 6(1)(j), 19(1)(i), 51(1)(j) MiCA). The data on this page can be used for both.

The content, methodologies and presentation of the indicators are specified in Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/422 of 17 December 2024 (the regulatory technical standards, "RTS"), published in the Official Journal on 31 March 2025 and in force. EUR-Lex

It replaces ESMA's final draft RTS of 3 July 2024 and the indicator set proposed in ESMA's second consultation package (October 2023). The annex defines the disclosure in tables, which differ in when they are mandatory:

TableContentWhen required
Table 2General information + mandatory key indicator on energy consumption (S.1 – S.9)Always — for every crypto-asset
Table 3Supplementary key indicators on energy and GHG emissions (S.10 – S.16)Only if energy consumption exceeds 500 000 kWh (500 MWh) per year — for CASPs, additionally only if they provide services (b), (c) or (d) of Art. 3(1)(16) MiCA
Table 4Optional indicators (e.g. waste production, natural resources)Voluntary

The 500 MWh threshold

Energy consumption of the crypto-asset (S.8)

≤ 500 000 kWh / year > 500 000 kWh / year
│ │
Table 2 only (S.1 – S.9) Table 2 + Table 3* (S.1 – S.16)

* For CASPs there is a second condition (Art. 5(2) of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/422): Table 3 is only required if the CASP provides at least one of the services (b) operation of a trading platform, (c) exchange of crypto-assets for funds or (d) exchange of crypto-assets for other crypto-assets under Art. 3(1)(16) MiCA. Otherwise — and below the threshold — Table 3 may still be published voluntarily.

Typical examples: Bitcoin, Ethereum or Solana are above the threshold; many tokens and stablecoins (e.g. on Polygon or Stellar) are below it. The annual energy consumption (S.8) is part of every API response, so you can apply the threshold directly.

Table 4 – Optional information

Optional indicators — among them waste production (WEEE, non-recycled WEEE ratio, hazardous waste) and the impact of equipment on natural resources — may be disclosed voluntarily. CCRI calculates these as well; see Methodology › MiCA Indicators.

note

The optional indicators are not part of the Get Disclosure Tables response — CCRI delivers them upon request. Please reach out to us.

What CCRI provides

  • All asset-related fields — S.3 to S.16 (and the optional indicators upon request), for every supported crypto-asset. You only add your own name and LEI (S.1, S.2).
  • Threshold-ready data — S.8 tells you whether the energy threshold for Table 3 is exceeded.
  • Daily updates — based on a rolling 14-day average to smooth out outliers; annual values are the daily value × 365.
  • Ready-to-publish texts for the qualitative fields (S.4, S.5, S.9, S.15, S.16).
  • Scientific methodology — documented in the MiCA methodology and CCRI's MiCA methodology whitepaper.
  • Delivery via API — or, if you prefer, as PDF or CSV.

How to integrate

One endpoint returns the complete disclosure for a crypto-asset:

GET /disclosure-tables/{ticker}
curl "https://v2.api.carbon-ratings.com/mica/disclosure-tables/btc" -H "key: YOUR_API_KEY"

The full request/response schema and an interactive "Try it" panel are on the endpoint page Get Disclosure Tables. The response follows the structure of Tables 2 and 3 of the annex, field by field (S.x).

To find out which crypto-assets are covered:

GET /currencies

See Get Available MiCA Currencies.

  1. Call GET /currencies and match the list against the crypto-assets you offer services for.
  2. Call GET /disclosure-tables/{ticker} once a day for each of them.
  3. Add your name (S.1) and LEI (S.2).
  4. Show Table 2 for every asset and Table 3 where S.8 exceeds 500 000 kWh (and, as a CASP, you provide services (b), (c) or (d) of Art. 3(1)(16) MiCA) — on a publicly accessible, prominently linked page of your website.

Authentication works as described in Authentication.
